First Look

Fotios Rouch recently build a MiG-23BN using the 1/48 Trumpeter kit (look here) using the Cold War Studio MiG-27 nose which is really includes the forward fuselage, cockpit, and the canopy/windscreen. That really perked my interest as I have Trumpeter's MiG-27M Flogger J kit and I knew Cold War Studio also produces a correction for this aircraft as well. With the global pandemic, it took a while but they finally arrived at HobbyZone USA and I grabbed one for my project. Let's take a look:

First, you'll note there is no CD-ROM included in the set. Cold War Studio went to downloadable PDF instructions which are available at the HobbyZone USA or Cold War Studio websites. What is included is a batch of resin, photo-etch, printed restraints, and masks.

MiG-27M/D Flogger Correction Set

The resin includes the forward fuselage from the intakes forward including a solid resin nose, so if your stock Trumpeter Flogger is a tail-sitter, this set will fix that. The resin also includes nose gear doors, a seat cover for the missing seat bottom in the Trumpeter kit, a new instrument panel with acetate instruments and photo-etch overlay, nose gear splash guard, and a variety of antennae and probes. The photo-etch set also includes canopy bow details, HUD, cockpit sills, and more antennae. The canopy and windscreen are clear resin and include a set of paint masks. One other innovative detail set is the pilot's restraints. The straps are color-printed on paper which need to be carefully cut out, then threaded through the photo-etched buckles and fittings. The harness on that ejection seat is complex and this set will replicate those details nicely.

If you want to build a nice-looking cold warrior, this set will bring out the best in the Trumpeter kit and give you a distinctive 'duck-nosed' Flogger for your scale flightline.

This set is available from HobbyZone USA.

My sincere thanks to HobbyZone USA for this review sample!
