The Kit
As I mentioned in my first-look of this kit, I thought this was another of HobbyBoss' easy-build kits but it turns out that this release is one of their normal kits. Regardless, this kit is an easy build with minimal parts breakdown. The cockpit is very simplistic with only a seat and a stick on the cockpit floor. No instrument panel or side consoles are provided. There are two stubs on the front of the floor that may be representing rudder pedals, but the pilot would need really long legs (or stilts) to reach them.
Aside from the Spartan cockpit, the kit goes together quite nicely. I am particularly impressed with the landing gear as HobbyBoss captured the complex ruggedized tricycle landing gear detail while still making it easy to assemble. I used liquid cement and let the struts dry overnight and they are solid.
The only other issue I have with this kit is ballast. I suspected that this would be a tail-sitter and I wasn't disappointed. I followed the instructions to see if HobbyBoss had addressed this need but they didn't. You'll need to add ballast into the nose before installing the cowl ring for the front engine or your model will also be a tail sitter.
You can see in the photos of the completed model that there is no paint or filler used, so you can see how well this kit goes together without effort. If you're looking for a quick and relaxing project, this is another good choice from HobbyBoss. Definitely recommended!
My sincere thanks to Squadron Mail Order for this review sample!
