Glencoe Mars Liner, 1/144 Kit #05914 - Scene from first chapter of Andre Norton's 'The Last Planet'. The Galactic Patrol Ship Starfire crash lands in the desert on what is discovered to be the mythical planet Earth. Patrol crewmembers (Blue Uniforms) make a futile attempt to repair the ship while Patrol Rangers (Orange Uniforms) plan a scouting mission to a far off forest. I modified the Mars Liner kit by installing an interior, opening the entry door, modified landing pads putting in steering rockets, fabricated flitter bay (open hatches on backside of ship) and and flitter (a modified 1/72 scale Phoenix missile). The base is mold-a-scene plaster and stones painted/shaded. Modified 1/44 scale figures to match characters in the book.
