Review
The third installment in Stratus' colorful "French Wings" series recaps three reconnaissance aircraft families:
- Breguet 27
- Potez 39 and
- A.N.F. Mureaux 113/115/117
Sections summarize each type's design, development, deployment and destiny – including, where appropriate, international service. Some – like the Mureaux 117 – even survived to serve in World War II.
Author José Fernandez deftly distills all in just 80 illuminating pages – and expertly unearths rare nuggets like, believe it or not, Mureaux 113 Cn2 night fighters. Historian Amaru Tincopa further flavors the account with fascinating notes on Peruvian Potez 390s.
Dozens of photos season the study. And color profiles by Teodor Liviu Morosanu make me wish for more models of these fascinating French aircraft. Just fact-check Morosanu's otherwise excellent art: some deviate – ever so slightly – from accompanying reference shots.
