Review
Here is Kagero's first special edition monograph covering the Friedrich, the Bf 109F, just in time for the variety of kits of this subject in a variety of scales. This monograph doesn't dwell much on the design of this variant, it provides the essential information about the differences between Bf 109F models and then launches intp an in-depth look at the aircraft in combat operations. Coverage of the title includes:
- Designing the Friedrich
- Messerschmitt Bf 109F-1
- Messerschmitt Bf 109F-2
- Messerschmitt Bf 109F-3
- Messerschmitt Bf 109F-4
- Messerschmitt Bf 109F-5
- Messerschmitt Bf 109F-6
- Experimental aircraft and test-beds
- Combat debut over the Channel
- Messerschmitt Bf 109F over North Africa and Malta
- Messerschmitt Bf 109F over Russia
Each section is nicely illustrated with period photos from each combat theater with notable markings and variations shown. This is all followed by a series of scrap drawings out of a technical manual illustrating the various parts of the Friedrich cockpit, airframe, and engine. These are followed by line drawings of the Bf 109F variants and 44 color profiles illustrating the wide variety of color and camouflage carried by this type across the three major theaters of operations.
The title is published in English and each of the images properly captioned to make a quick browse of this reference just as productive as a cover-to-cover read (though I recommend the latter). If you're wanting some definitive references for your Bf 109F project(s), this is the one title you should have handy for your modeling as well as your aviation research.
My sincere thanks to Kagero for this review sample!
