Review

Classic Warships has released another in a series of warship pictorial books, this time Steve Wiper brings us German Battleships from 1939 to 1945 warship pictorial.  This book is designed to provide the reader with a chronological photo history of the four German battleships throughout the Second World War.  They would be the battleships of the Scharnhorst class, including Gneisenau and of the Bismarck class, including Tirpitz.  All of the battleships were named after famous military leaders from Germany's past.

This very handy reference pictorial book is loaded with an 132 black and white photographs of the Scharnhorst and Bismarck class Battleships.  Included are many never before published photos which were obtained from sources in Germany, the United States, and from individual collectors.  This book supplements Classic Warships pictorials #19 Bismarck, #26 Tirpitz, and #36 Scharnhorst with additional detailed and close up photographs with early and late war paint colors.  The beautiful colorized and collaged cover photo is from an early black and white Gneisenau photograph with portions of the Scharnhorst added to represent the Gneisenau as he was in late 1939.

Thanks goes out to Steve Wiper of classicwarships.com for the review sample!
