Review
Aero Research has released their second photo reference CD, this covering interceptors of the now defunct USAF Air Defense Command (ADC). You'll recall that the first release covered F-4 Phantom IIs of the US Navy (reviewed here).
Once again I used my image browser to scan through the aircraft on the disc and I was quite impressed with the selection of aircraft. In this release, they have provided at least one photo from every ADC squadron, though they've managed to compile one or two photos of each aircraft type flown in the history of that squadron.
As with the first release, many of these images are provided at 6000 pixels wide. All of the photos are color and all are out of various collections. Many are taken while the aircraft were in service, a few were taken of the only examples left of a given aircraft from a specific unit - from either museums or the boneyard.
For the tail spotter, you'll see aircraft from a variety of time periods which reflect a variety of painting and marking standards employed in each time period. So what kind of aircraft will you find on the disc?
- F-86D/L Sabre Dog
- F-89 Scorpion
- F-94 Starfire
- F-101 Voodoo
- F-102 Delta Dagger
- F-106 Delta Dart
- F-4 Phantom II
For the modeler, you'll see lots of good details and color information for tackling that next project.
According to the publisher, future subjects include: Fire Tankers, USN/USMC A-4 Skyhawks, USAF F-4 Phantoms, and Reno Unlimiteds 1964-1974. Each title will be released in two-month intervals. They are still running an introductory special: Free postage in North America through 1/1/2007.
This is a nice selection of imagery that you won't find available in such clarity and size. This title is recommended!
You can purchase this reference or any of their other photo CDs directly from their website www.aeroresearchcds.com or via email AeroResearch@Charter.net.
My sincere thanks to Aero Research for this review sample!
