Review
Accion Press has released another useful modeling guide for scale aircraft modelers. Aircraft Modelling Essentials takes the combined works of 10 master modelers to show how to achieve master-quality results using a nice cross-section of subjects. The skills covered here include:
- Getting Started
- Tools and Techniques
- Basic Assembly
- Cockpit
- Wheel Wells
- Gluing the Pieces Together
- Engine
- Camouflage
- Decals
- Masking
- Weathering
- Accessories
- Advanced
The getting started section is literally that, going to the store, and building a Lego model and a snap-together kit. Perhaps we're getting a bit too literal? The authors/builders dive into a series of progressively more ambitious builds to illustrate the various techniques using WW2 through contemporary subjects. The basic assembly section works from start-to-finish on an Airfix 1/72 Lightning kit.
You'll appreciate the camouflage section, for example, as they illustrate how to replicate the patterns for a MiG-29, Spitfire, and Focke Wulf to illustrate hard-line versus feathered line and masked versus freehand painting styles.
There are a variety of modeling titles on the market, several of which have come from Accion Press. Each one presents its approaches to modeling a little differently since each reader tends to assimilate information differently. This title is well-illustrated with excellent color photos as well as detailed text and captions to get the job done.
Definitely recommended!
My sincere thanks to Accion Press for this review sample!
