First Look
Hataka from Poland has released a new paint set which provides the essential colors for modern Luftwaffe aircraft used on their fixed-wing aircraft between the 1960s and 1980s. This eight-bottle set provides the essential colors to replicate many of the Luftwaffe schemes. This set is released in the Blue Line which is a thicker acrylic designed for brush painting though it can be thinned for airbrushing. The Red Line will eventually have this set and the red line is pre-thinned for use directly in an airbrush. For those who prefer lacquers, the Orange Line has the same paint sets which are lacquer-based.
This set contains eight 17ml bottles of paint with a set of paint brushable colors that include:
- B189 RAL 7001 Silver Gray
- B190 RAL 9006 While Aluminum
- B191 RAL 7035 Light Gray
- B192 RAL 7012 Basalt Gray
- B193 RAL 6014 Yellow Olive
- B194 RAL 2005 Luminous Orange
- B078 Aluminum
- B201 Voodoo Gray
As previously tested, Hataka paints go on smoothly and without any problem and responds well to the homemade thinner which is similar to Tamiya acrylic thinner. The Hataka acrylics respond just as well with the Tamiya thinner and even using Windex to clean the airbrush.
Each Hataka paint bottle includes a mixing ball which helps to stir the paint back into its intended color after sitting for a period of time. That turns out to be an important feature for paints in these small 17ml bottles as some competitors do not have any way to mix their colors without dismantling the bottle. This feature is also important as Hataka has a solid reputation for producing accurate colors.
My sincere thanks to Hataka Hobby for this review sample!
