First Look
AK Interactive has been producing a very wide range of paints and weathering products over the last several years targeted to the armored fighting vehicle modelers. What you see here is one of the first releases being targeted to the aircraft modeler, and here is one that applies to all aircraft, the typical grease and grime found on landing gear.
This set contains three 35ml bottles of washes. The colors in this set include:
- Landing Gear Wash
- Landing Gear Dust Effect
- Shafts and Bearings Grease
This three-wash set is useful to any powered aircraft project. The Landing Gear Wash helps to bring out details with subtle (or not-so-subtle) washing of the struts and wheel hubs. The Dust Effect is another wash that will tone down those clean white or RLM 02 gear struts with some simple dust tone to show use (not abuse). The final bottle provides that grease look found around oleos, axles, etc. where grease is applied to keep the landing gear functioning but spreads around somewhat if the crew chief doesn't clean the wheels and gear struts after every flight.
The MSRP in the US for this set is $19.99 or over $6.00 USD per bottle though I've seen some shops charge more for the same set. You can order this set directly from AK Interactive's website for €10.50 (about $14.25 USD) or under $5.00 USD per bottle (plus shipping).
My sincere thanks to AK Interactive for this review sample!
