First Look
The Type 214-class diesel submarine is an export version of Germany's Type 212 boat. Built by Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft GmbH (HDW), the type is in service with the navies of Greece, Republic of Korea, Pakistan, Portugal, and Turkey. The type can operate with a crew of 27 for 84 days, a surfaced range of 12,000 miles, a submerged endurance of over 1200 miles, and can reach a depth of over 250 meters (400 in theory).
Here is a new-tool subject from Wolfpack Models. This is the Type 214 submarine in 1/350 scale and is a simple build, as you would expect. The kit is molded in black styrene and presented on two parts trees. Among the features and options in this box:
- Main deck inserts are provided for your choice of docked or underway configurations
- Conning tower insert is provided for your choice of surface or submerged configurations
- Surface configuration comes with positionable periscopes and sensor masts
- Display stand included
Markings are included for:
- Hellenic Navy
- Republic of Korea Navy
- Portuguese Navy
You'll be seeing these kits on store shelves very soon as they are being imported into North America by Model Recticifier Corporation (MRC). As soon as pricing information is available, I'll update the data block up top with that information.
My sincere thanks to MRC for this review sample!
