First Look
The Aerosan (aerosled) was a transportation concept that dated back to the early 1900s where worn-out engines turning wooden propellers would power a sled on skis. The first aerosans were employed around northern Russia as transportation as well as for recreation. The KM-4 was a small transporter with four seats (driver and up to three passengers) that could serve as a bus, shuttle, or private transportation.
Trumpeter has been releasing a number of Aerosans over the years and now adds the KM-4 to that list. Molded in light gray styrene, this kit is presented on two parts trees plus two-part body shell. and one tree of clear parts. Among the features in this kit:
- Basic operator controls
- Basic four-place seating
- Positionable entry doors
- Skis with shock absorbers
- Pusher propeller
- Propeller guard
- Lighting for nighttime operations
If you're looking for a nice, easy kit to build, this is one to consider. Given the few parts that make up this kit (or the full-sized example), this kit will go together quickly and likely spend more time in painting/weathering. This is a nice 'berween the wars' subject that can be drafted for early duties or simply as a nice conveyor of life around the frozen stretches.
