First Look
Several years ago, Moebius Models began releasing kits from the second Battlestar Galactica (2004) series and have several new subjects coming that have never been produced in kit form before. One of the subjects never seen before was the Viper Mark VII which was the fleet's latest fighter. The Mark VII, like the newer battlestars, was highly automated and was vulnerable to a computer virus attack which neutralized all of the 'modern' forces during the Cylon attack on the 12 colonies.
Moebius released the Mark VII in 1/32 scale and is back with the Mark VII in 1/72 scale which follows the earlier release of the Mark II and the more recent release of the Cylon Raider also in this scale.
The kit is molded in light gray styrene and presented four parts trees plus one tree of clear parts. There are actually two complete kits in this box, so eight trees of gray styrene and two trees of clear parts. Among the features and options of this kit:
- Positionable landing gear
- Optional crew figure(s)
- Optional display base(s)
- Marking options for five Vipers
Assembly of the kit is very straightforward with excellent instructions to show the almost snap-together process of assembly. The instructions also provide clear painting and decal placement diagrams as well. The markings not only provide extensive markings for both Vipers, they also include squadron patches for the pilots as well.
This is yet another nice kit from Moebius Models that provide two nice Vipers to display together or one for your shelf and one for your desk. Give one a try!
My sincere thanks to Moebius Models for this review sample!
