First Look
Moebius Models continues to produce some great subjects that are mostly overlooked by other kit manufacturers. One of the better moves this company has made was to obtain the licensing to produce the range of interesting subjects from the recent Battlestar Galactica series. Among the subjects released to date include the Galactica itself, Battlestar Pegasus, Viper Mark II and Viper Mark VII, Cylon Centurion and Cylon Raider. In addition, Moebius has announced the Raptor scout ship. In this release, we have Colonial One, the luxury spaceliner that was pressed into the civilian government seat when one of its passengers was found to be the most senior surviving elected government official.
The kit is molded in light gray styrene and presented on six parts trees plus one clear styrene tree containing the old 'Aurora-style' display stand. This is the first kit produced by Moebius Models in 1/350 scale and provides an interesting counterpoint to the warships produced in this scale as well as the three Star Trek starships also produced in 1/350. If you've forgotten the relative size of this ship, it easily landed inside the carrier deck of the Galactica with lots of room to spare.
The designers also made this kit with some nice features to make assembly and display fun:
- Detailed exterior
- Positionable aft blast shields
- Positionable landing gear
This kit is laid out nicely to allow for lighting of the interior and engines if you choose. There are already a few builds of this kit online with and without lighting. This kit will look great sitting on your shelf, posed in-flight on a display stand, or even hanging from the ceiling. The decals also provide alternative markings for this spaceliner in Eversun markings versus the Intersun markings on the Colonial One ship.
Whatever your choices, this colorful unique subject will great in your Battlestar Gallactica kit collection!
My sincere thanks to Moebius Models for this review sample!
