First Look
When SyFy first announced a new production of Battlestar Galactica, there was lots of speculation about this simply being a modernized remake of the original series from the 1970s. When SyFy began showing previews and a glimpse at some of the major stars that were cast for this new production, we knew we were going to be in for a serious ride. That ride lasted five seasons followed by a flip-side mini-series from the Cylon point of view, followed by the prequel 'Caprica'.
Moebius Models produced models of the new-series Galactica, two of the Vipers, one Cylon fighter, and now this new-series Cylon Centurion. They've also announced the Battlestar Pegasus and the Viper Mk.I which coincides with the upcoming new prequel 'Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome' which covers the first Cylon war.
Molded in a tan-gray styrene, this kit is presented on 17 parts trees plus one small clear tree. The kit represents the Centurion crouched in a combat stance with its left arm configured in its firing position. Three integral weapons mounted in the forearm are visible. There is an aftermarket set which provides blinking lights for the three weapons plus the signature sweeping red eye for the helmet.
Assembly of the kit is very straightforward. The only problem I'll have is with the display base from my sample which came out warped on one end. I'm going to try some heat to straighten the base or simply replace it with some wood so I can have some fun with the Alclad metalizer.
This is another outstanding kit from Moebius Models and whether you're a figure modeler, science fiction buff, or wanting something different to build, this kit is just what you're looking for.
My sincere thanks to Moebius Models for this review sample!
