First Look

MJ Miniatures produces an interesting range of 1/9 scale figure busts. This latest portrays a Waffen SS grenadier during 'Unternehmen Wacht am Rhein' (Operation Watch on the Rhein) or as we now call the 'Battle of the Bulge'. The figure is beautifully cast in gray resin and features some impressive detailing.

WSS Grenadier in Ardenne

As with the other busts in the series, the upper torso of this figure is perched on a plinth which is begging for its own painting and weathering. The figure is wearing cold weather gear and carrying an array of essentials including a machine gun over his shoulder, an ammunition belt around his neck, a bayonette clipped to his tunic, a shovel pushed through his belt, a leather case, and his sidearm with holster. This set provides two options, one with an empty right hand and his sidearm in its holster, and the other with his sidearm in his right hand and an empty holster. Oddly enough, the only thing this grenadier is missing are his grenades.

This is some really beautiful sculpting and casting which translates to an easy assembly and lots of options for painting. The painted figure on the box art shows just how nice the final result can be.

My sincere thanks to High Calibre Miniatures for this review sample!
