First Look
The Mercedes Benz 170V came to the public market in 1936. The Type 170V replaced the 6 cylinder predecessor with a more powerful, yet more fuel efficient 4 cylinder engine. This vehicle was a great choice for the Wehrmacht at the time, being very reliable and technically advanced. As it was 2 wheel drive with minimal ground clearance, this car was not suited for off road use, but it was still the best choice at the time for the German command. Used in many different rolls, more than 19,000 of the Type 170V's were made for the German Army between 1938 and 1942.
With more than 230 styrene parts, Master Box packs a lot of detail into this little model! All of the parts are very well molded and flash is very minimal. Seam lines are faint and will be easy to clean up. There are quite a few knock out pin marks that will need to be addressed if you want to show off all of the interior details.
28 of the parts are marked out on the instruction sheet as not being needed for this version. This kit gives you lots of options during the build. Some of the main ones are:
- Full and very detailed engine
- Highly detailed tube chassis
- Highly detailed drive train
- Choice of open or covered grill
- Choice of open or closed hood
- Choice of tail lights
- Doors can be built open or closed
- Windshield can be built open or closed
- Windshield can be built up or down
- Top can be built up or down
- Side windows can be built on or off
The detail on this kit is amazing. Some of the parts are very small and will require some skill to use. Markings are included for no fewer than 6 vehicles and the back of the box shows 6 different paint schemes. The gauges for the instrument panel are supplied as decals.
My sincere thanks to DML for this review sample!
