First Look
Hasegawa continues to release a variety of new subjects in their egg plane series and here is a two-for-one release you'll enjoy. This kit represents the distinctive pairing of the Space Shuttle atop its Boeing 747-100 carrier aircraft. NASA had acquired a former American Airlines 747 and modified the airframe to mount similar pylons that are used to mount the Shuttle onto the external fuel tank. NASA needed a carrier to conduct glide-to-landing tests of the Enterprise and subsequently retrieve the Shuttles that returned to Earth at any airfield other than Kennedy Space Center.
This kit is molded in white styrene and presented on five parts trees plus two trees of black styrene parts and two windshields molded in clear styrene. Assembly is going to be quick and straightforward. What will take a little time will depend upon how much painting you wish to render on these two gems.
The kit also includes a nice set of decals with marking options for Shuttle Discovery, Atlantis, and Endeavour. The decal set also includes markings for either 747 carrier, N905NA (former American Airlines) or N911NA (former Japan Airlines).
If you're looking for a fun project, look no further than this interesting pairing!
My sincere thanks to Hasegawa USA for this review sample!
