What happens to the extra parts trees that are left over after a kit release? In Eduard's case, they came up with a unique solution - Overtrees. Eduard will periodically offer a complete set of parts trees for a given kit subject in their overtrees sales and one of these is happening now. In an overtree kit, you only get the sprues in an unmarked box. No instructions, decals, or anything else. The instructions are available in PDF format on the Eduard website, and decals can be had from the aftermarket community. What you get is a set of plastic ready for assembly.
In this case, we have the overtree set for the Eduard 1/48 Fokker E.III. This kit is molded in light gray styrene and presented on three parts trees plus one clear part. From what I can see, none of these trees are defective in any way and the molding and surface detailing are all up to the usual high-quality standards from Eduard.
If you're interested in an inexpensive way to acquire a number of Eduard kits in 1/48 or 1/72 scale, go to the Eduard website and see what subjects are currently available and their very low prices as overtrees. Note that overtrees are not available anywhere except directly from Eduard's website.
My sincere thanks to Eduard for this review sample!
