First Look
The JS Ashigara (DDG-178) is an Atago class guided missile destroyer of the JMSDF. Ashigara was commissioned on March 13th, 2008 and assigned to the JMSDF Escort Flotilla 2. From 2010, Aegis BMD 3.6 was introduced to this ship, by this; she became the 6th Kongo Class Aegis ship with BMD. At this moment this ship is the most capable Aegis ship in the JMSDF.
The Aoshima Kit of the Ashigara consists of 172 styrene parts molded in grey and 3 parts molded in clear. All parts feature nice details and very little flash. The decal sheet is very well printed and in registration. The instruction sheet is very well written and will be easy to follow. The drawings are clear and detailed. Included in the kit are 2 F-4EJ's, 2 F-15J's, 3 F-1's, an E-2C and a SH-60. The aircraft hangar can be built open or closed. Painting instructions are called out during construction.
The kit looks good in the box and I do not see any problems with construction.
My sincere thanks to DragonModels USA for this review sample!
