First Look
Here's the info straight from the "horse's mouth", er, box-top. Ford's "New Generation" Econoline van (Stock version): The kit features a 124" wheelbase "Shorty" E-150 with Chateau trim including deluxe Captain's chair seats, and full wheel covers. The mini-hood opens to reveal a forward-placed 351 C.I.D. V-8 engine. The super detailed chassis has a massive new frame and Twin-I-Beam front suspension.
In addition to the stock parts the kit also includes an alternate custom building version which features the newest (for the 1970's) in street/show customizing including wild "Mural" decals, front spoiler, wheel flares, custom grille, rectangular headlights, header side mount exhausts, Keystone "Ranger" spoke wheels, super-side Goodyear Street tires. The custom variation also includes optional windows and roof vent. The kit includes three sets of custom windows in clear and smoke tent with "Gemstone", "Teardrop" and Freestyle versions.
It appears that our friends at AMT have found all the pieces to this kit and restored it to its former glory.
Here are the basic stats for the model:
- Scale: 1/25
- Skill Level: 2 (ages 10 and up)
- Glue assembly, paint required
- Molded in white, plus clear, smoke-tint, red clear, and chrome parts
- 2 in 1 kit can be built stock or custom
- Expanded decal sheet with a mural decal
- Special Original Art packaging format
- Stock and Custom Tires
The kit is molded in white styrene. There are 5 parts trees molded in white, plus one chrome tree and clear and smoke tinted glass. The body is stock and has all the pieces required to build a showroom stock 1976 Econoline. In addition it has the parts to build it as a custom boulevard cruiser. The decals depict a spooky graveyard scene at sunset as well as the word "Phantom" in multiple colors, plus 2 different sets of license plates. In fact my one disappointment with this kit is the decal sheet. It would have been nice if they had thrown in at least a couple of stripe variations. Still being a Ford fan its great to have this old friend back on the shelf.
This kit is highly recommended!
My sincere thanks to Round2 Models for this review sample
