First Look
Pavla produces an interesting line of detail sets for a variety of subjects, each one designed to enhance a particular aspect of a given kit. In this set, Pavla offers another nice update for Airfix's 1/48 TSR.2.
This set completely overhauls the spartan cockpit in the kit. The set starts with a new drop-in cockpit tub. If you look at the image below, you can see the Pavla cockpit in black and the Airfix cockpit in white. The Airfix tub shown is the basic tub that doesn't have the rear bulkheads installed where these are integrally molded into the Pavla part. The stock kit's rear bulkheads are acceptable as-is, though the Pavla part has more detail cast in there. The side consoles also reveal some of the differences in detail as well. The Pavla cockpit offers nicer details on the sidewalls, instrument panels, and even the ejection seats.
If you note to the right in the above image the two ejection seats. The Airfix seat doesn't have the sides installed, so it does look narrower but the width is comparable to the Pavla part. What the Pavla seat offers again is more detail with the seat belts and shoulder harness molded in place as well as the additional detail that will pop out after painting.
If you want to dress up your Airfix TSR.2 kit, Pavla has the parts to get the job done!
My sincere thanks to Pavla Models for this review sample.
