First Look
Pavla produces an interesting line of detail sets for a variety of subjects, each one designed to enhance a particular aspect of a given kit. In this set, Pavla offers another nice conversion for Tamiya's 1/48 Spitfire kit. This set transforms the stock Tamiya kit into your choice of three photo reconnaissance variants.
The set provides eight resin parts including a new pilot's seat, seat armor (used in one of the three variants), bulged chin (drop-in replacement for kit part), and slipper tanks (usage not shown in the instructions, so you'll have to use your references). Two styles of windscreen/hood are provided and are clearly indicated in the instructions as to which one is which.
One nice touch with this conversion is the inclusion of a set of decals to render one of three versions:
- Spitfire PR.III, R6903, LY, 1 PRU, RAF
- Spitfire PR.VII, R7059, 1 PRU, RAF
- Spitfire PR.IV, BP880, 681 Sqn, SEAC
If you've been wanting a photo-recce Spitfire in your collection, especially one with an overall PRU Blue or PRU Pink finish, here is a set that will do the job for you.
My sincere thanks to Pavla Models for this review sample.
