First Look

MPC has released the Small Metal Thruster Set for their recent 1/48 Space: 1999 Eagle Transporter kit. This set really shows just how far computer-controlled CnC machining has progressed. This set provides machined aluminum bells for each of the attitude thrusters on the sides of the landing gear pods.

Each of the four attitude thrusters on the Eagle Transporter kit has four small motors, each with its own separately molded bell in styrene. The kit bells are hollow-molded but will be a little work to clean-up the mold stub on each of the 16 bells, paint them, and then mount them without losing one (or more) to the carpet.

This set provides those 16 bells in machined aluminum ready to drop into place on the Eagle kit. If you look at that Lego for comparison, you'll see just how tiny these thruster bells are and just how amazing the machining technology has become.

This is a nice option produced by MPC for the Eagle and I can see some potential uses for other projects as well. These aluminum parts are beautifully done.

I picked up my set from >CultTVman Hobbyshop.
