First Look
MPC has released the Deluxe Accessory Set for their recent 1/48 Space: 1999 Eagle Transporter kit. This set really shows just how far computer-controlled CnC machining has progressed. This set provides machined aluminum engine bells as well as four replacement struts.
Take a look at the image above, you can see the four large main engine bells that are drop-in fits for the kit parts, not produced in halves and by definition are the right color. In addition, there are four lift-engine bells that mount one each under the Eagle and four lift engine bells for under the passenger pod. Like the main engine bells, these too are drop-in replacements and won't need any silver paint. The final components in this set are the four replacement landing gear struts which replace the styrene struts in the stock kit.
This is a nice option produced by MPC for the Eagle and I can see some potential uses for other projects as well. Removing seam lines out of engine bells are a pain but finding alternatives, even resin ones, are usually not an option. These aluminum parts are beautifully done.
I picked up my set from >CultTVman Hobbyshop.
