First Look
Metallic Details is an aftermarket detail company from the Ukraine that produces some really impressive updates for current as well as older kits. This release is one of several detail sets designed for the Testors/Italeri 1/48 SR-71 and YF-12 kits. This set replaces the simple inlet cone plugs on the kit.
The instructions walk you through the process of altering the model using the replacement inlet rings that are grafted onto the engine fairings, add the rear mount to the inlet ring, and then you insert the shock cone down the inlet. The result provides visible depth down the inlets. Given the price of this set, this update will appeal primarily to the hard core Blackbird fan who knows we won't see another 1/48 kit of this subject anytime in our near future. Metallic Details also produces an afterburner nozzle detail set as well as a complete overhaul of the kits' wheel wells and landing gear.
