First Look
Lonestar Models has been producing limited-run kits and conversions for quite a few years. It was good to see Mike West, the owner, producer and bottlewasher, at the 2006 IPMS/USA National Convention. He had a number of interesting new releases on display, and the F2G definitely caught my eye!
This conversion is cast in tan resin and provides the essential elements to transform the Tamiya F4U-1 kit into the sport model F2G. The parts include a nicely cast new engine, a very thin-cast cowling to go over the engine, a new forward fuselage/firewall, cockpit tub, vertical stab/rudder, cut-down turtledeck, and a new prop. Two sets of prop hubs and blades are included as there were some air bubbles in a few of the blades but you can get a complete prop from the two sets. A clear vacuformed canopy is also included.
A few of the resin castings have minor pinholes that will need filling, but you were going to do some filling to blend resin and styrene together at assembly time anyway.
The conversion looks straightforward and should pose the modeler with some experience with resin conversions no problems. If you have ever wanted the sport-model Corsair on your scale flightline, here is your chance!
