First Look
Three years ago, Furball Aero-Design released a photo-etched detail set for the Tamiya 1/48 F-14A Tomcat kit (has it really been three years since Tamiya first released that kit?). Out of the box, the Tamiya kit represents the early Tomcat as it appeared in the mid-1970s, but for those who want to convert the model into later configurations, one detail needed is the stiffener plate applied to either side of the aircraft's vertical stabilizers, just below the fin cap. While the photo-etch set was a nice solution for that update, Furball Aero-Design is back with a different solution - vinyl overlays. Simply stick these into place and then apply your paint scheme to seal them into place.
Like the photo-etch set, these vinyl overlays will actually stack one atop another (total of three layers) to replicate the stiffeners. This is a simple and effective solution for adding those subtle details to your Tomcat, and this set provides sufficient stiffeners for one model.
Thanks to Furball Aero-Design Models for the review sample.
