First Look
Eduard from the Czech Republic is easily the most prolific producer of aftermarket details. Period. Their series of photo-etched detail sets have brought additional fidelity to otherwise bland subjects, and have taken even the best-produced models and kicked them up a notch or two with details that cannot be produced with injection-molded plastic. Many AMS modelers will collect the relevant Eduard photo-etch sets for a given project, but they'll also go out and gather specific resin enhancements as well. Eduard has stepped up with a new product line to complement their photo-etched detail series - Brassin. Brassin is a play on words with Brass and Resin, and in many sets in this series, the resin details also include a set of color photo-etch as well.
In this release, Eduard has produced the DB 605 engine, mounts, firewall, gun tray with dual MG 131 machine guns, and detailed cowling doors complete with supercharger air intake scoop. The engine is a complete model kit of its own with lots of plumbing and wiring nicely replicated. Time spend painting and weathering this kit will provide an awesome visual enhancement to the nicely detailed stock Bf 109G-6 kit also from Eduard. The instructions are very well done with step-by-step illustrations of where the various resin and photo-etched parts go as you build up the engine from the basic block to a complete firewall-forward display model.
The instructions also walk you through the process of modifying the Bf 109G-6 kit to accept this beauty as well as how to mount and position the cowling door panels. The only thing you'll need is a good color photo reference of the engine so you can carefully pick out the details with paint and weathering.
If you want to take your Gustav to the next level (or two), this set is designed just for that purpose!
My sincere thanks to Eduard for this review sample!
