Panzer IV Ausf.D Tauch Detail

Tristar has been turning out some impressive tank kits of late, not the least of which is the Panzer IV Ausf.D Tauch kit (reviewed here). With all of that excellent detail, there are still limits to what one can do with styrene, you cannot create thin, sharp details in that medium. Eduard to the rescue.

This detail set starts off having you remove many of the molded-on brackets from the fenders and hull as these will be replaced with photo-etch. The set also provides photo-etched retainer chains for the tow pintle pins on the lower hull.

The pioneering tools and fire extinguisher also have their molded-on mounting brackets removed so they can be properly installed into photo-etch brackets on the hull and fenders.

Replacement fender fairings, muffler brackets, and frame details round out the set. When installed properly, you shouldn't 'see' the photo-etch detail, but your eye will quickly distinguish the fine details that are subtly part of the kit, especially when your masterpiece is parked next to another Panzer IV that was build straight out of the box.

The details in this set are small and will require patience, experience with photo-etch, and be made easier when used with good tools.

This set is definitely recommended!

My sincere thanks to Eduard for this review sample!
