First Look
Yellow-Wings Decals has released another nice decal set in 1/32 scale, this time for the Hasegawa F4B-4 kit. This is one of Hasegawa's older toolings, but it has withstood the test of time and remains a very nice rendition of the Boeing fighter.
This set provides markings for four different aircraft from four different squadrons:
- F4B-4, BuNo 9246, VF-3, 3-F-1, USS Ranger, 1935, Squadron Commander
- F4B-4, BuNo 9026, VF-6, 6-F-10, USS Saratoga, 1934, Fourth Section Leader
- F4B-4, BuNo 9252, VB-2, 2-B-13, USS Lexington, Fifth Section Leader
- F4B-4, BuNo 9016, VF-10M, 10-F-7, USMC
The instructions that are included in this set provide not only the colors and decal placement for the four examples, they also provide an excellent map of where all of the various maintenance stencils go on the model. As you can see in the images below, the set includes sufficient stencils, national markings, distinctive markings, and even propeller tip stripes for four models!
If you're like me, you have at least one of these kits stashed away in your collection but the decals have yellowed with age. Here are some markings that are better than the kit decals and a good reason to build a nice yellow-wing fighter soon!
Yellow-Wings Decals can be purchased directly from their website at www.yellow-wingsdecals.com.
My sincere thanks to Yellow-Wings Decals for this review sample!
