First Look
Vagabond Decals is a new company that has released a really nice set of decals for the Kinetic 1/48 E-2C Hawkeye kits. The airframes presented in this set are the later configuration aircraft up to and including the Hawkeye 2000. You'll remember that the first Kinetic E-2C kit had the CEC disc antenna for under the fuselage in that box along with the earlier four-bladed propellers, just like the Paris Air Show example depicted as the third option below.
This decal set comes on one large sheet and provides markings for 3 aircraft:
- E-2C, BuNo 163536, VAW-125, AA/600, NAS Norfolk, VA, 2009
- E-2C, BuNo 165824, VAW-125, AG/602, USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, 2006
- E-2C, BuNo 165813, VAW-125, --/600, USS John F. Kennedy, Paris Air Show, 2005
The set comes with sufficient stenciling for one aircraft. Take a close look at this decal sheet. All of these decals are in perfect register and none require you to stack multiple layers of decals to recreate what you see here. Like the nice decals from Yellow Wings Decals, these are printed by Microscale and look great. Isn't it nice to see the quality decals that don't make you do the extra work of overlaying one decal over another?
