First Look

Thundercals has returned with another great decal set for the Tamiya 1/48 P-47D Thunderbolt kits. This release covers five razorback Thunderbolt aircraft out of the 80th Fighter Group assigned to the China/Burma/India (CBI) theater.

This set includes:

  • P-47D-23-RA, 42-27454, 80 FG, 00, 1944, 'Butterbean III'
  • P-47D-23-RA, 43-25708, 89 FS/80 FG, 66, 1945, 'Frankie's Turbo/Millie'
  • P-47D-23-RA, 42-27480, 89 FS/80 FG, 50, 1945, 'Burma Yank'
  • P-47D-23-RA, 43-25702, 89 FS/80 FG, 58, 1944, 'Miss Flash/Wee Dood It Again'
  • P-47D-23-RA, 42-27413, 90 FS/80 FG, 85, 1944, 'Bunny Dunny/Lady Ester'

As with their previous releases, this decal set is well-documented and provides very useful information to replicate each of the subjects. While this decal set would work on other 1/48 P-47D kits, the nose art are sized specifically for the Tamiya cowling. This set also includes a great set of airframe stencils that will add visual details to the model. You can also stop by their Facebook page to see how others have put these markings to work.

As you can see in the images above, the printing of these decals is well done as they are printed by Cartograf. You can order a set of these limited edition decals from the thundercals.com website.

My sincere thanks to Thundercals for this review sample!
