First Look
Thundercals has returned with the ultimate airframe stencil set for the P-47 Thunderbolt. Whether you're building the Razorback or Bubbletop Thunderbolt, this set provides a wealth of national markings, placards, stencils, and nice documentation to put these all to work.
This set includes:
- Three types of 35" fuselage national insiginia
- 40", 50", and 55" national insignia
- Data stenciling for seven types of propellers (with diagram illustrating the shape differences)
- Hamilton Standard and Curtiss Electric prop logos
- Pratt and Whitney engine placards
- Pratt and Whitney logos
- Two types of main gear hydraulic placards
- Red wing root No Step
- Gun numbers
- Flap indicators
The differences between the 35" fuselage national insignia is subtle but provide the different sized segments for the supercharger air exit doors depending on how the national insignia was placed on that aircraft. The printing of these decals is well done as they are printed by Cartograf.
This is the best stenciling set I've seen for the Thunderbolt and the documentation that explains the placement rather than simply pointing out locations also raises the bar for how decals should be researched and provided to the modeler. Using this set, you won't need to pour over photos to figure out how/what/why/where various markings were applied. Well done!
As you can see in the images above, the printing of these decals is well done as they are printed by Cartograf. You can order a set of these limited edition decals from the thundercals.com website.
My sincere thanks to Thundercals for this review sample!
