First Look

Here is the latest release from Starfighter Decals, this one being Part 3 in a 1/72 scale series that will cover the B-17 Flying Fortress. In this release, we have eight B-17E examples, many of which wear the colorful and unique Hawaiian Depot camouflage. This set will work nicely with the Academy 1/72 B-17E kit.

This decal set provides markings for the following subjects:

  • B-17E, 41-9244, 64 BS/19 BG, 'Honikuuhe Okole'
  • B-17E, 41-2416, 19 BG, 'San Antonio Rose'
  • B-17E, 41-2437, 42 BS/5 BG
  • B-17E, 41-2409, Midway Island, 'Old Maid'
  • B-17E, 41-2433, 24 BS/11 BG, 'Miss Fit'
  • B-17E, 41-2616, 98 BS/11 BG, 'The Blue Goose'
  • B-17E, 41-2525, 98 BS/11 BG, 'Madame X'
  • B-17E, 41-9122, 98 BS/11 BG, 'Typhoon McGoon II'

This decal set offers some interesting alternatives for kit subjects and it is a shame that there isn't a kit in 1/48 scale for the early Fortresses (you can use the Koster conversion to get there).

You can purchase these decals directly from Starfighter Decals on their website.

My sincere thanks to Starfighter Decals for this review sample!
