First Look

Here is the latest release from Starfighter Decals, this one being Part 2 in a 1/72 scale series that will cover the B-17 Flying Fortress. In this release, we have six examples, one B-17C, and five B-17D, most of which were in service in the early days of World War II. This set will work nicely with the Academy 1/72 B-17C/D kit.

This decal set provides markings for the following subjects:

  • B-17D, 40-3061, 14 BS/19 BW, Darwin AB, Australia, 1941
  • B-17D, 40-3095, 61 BS/11 BG, Iba Field, Philippines, 1941
  • B-17C, 40-2049, 38 RS/11 BG, crashed landed 7 Dec 1941
  • B-17D, unknown, 7 BG, Hamilton Field, CA, 1941
  • B-17D, 40-3067, 19 BG, Philippines, 1941
  • B-17D, 40-3060, photographed over Hawaii, Feb 1942

This decal set offers some interesting alternatives for kit subjects and it is a shame that there isn't a kit in 1/48 scale for the early Fortresses (you can use the Koster conversion to get there).

You can purchase these decals directly from Starfighter Decals on their website.

My sincere thanks to Starfighter Decals for this review sample!
