First Look
Starfighter Decals has released this interesting set of camouflaged TBD Devastators in 1/48 scale perfect for the Monogram kit. These markings range from the months prior to the US entry into World War 2 and the various color schemes under evaluation at the time through the aircraft at Coral Sea and Midway.
This decal set provides markings for eight aircraft:
- TBD-1, 42-S-16, VS-42, May 1941
- TBD-1, 6-T-4, VT-6, Mar 1941
- TBD-1, 6-T-4, VT-6, Oct 1941
- TBD-1, 8, VT-6, Doolittle Raid, Apr 1942
- TBD-1, T1, VT-2, May 1942 (Battle of Coral Sea)
- TBD-1, 8-T-1, VT-8, Feb 1942
- TBD-1, T-14, VT-8, Jun 1942, Battle of Midway as flown by Ens George Gay
- TBD-1, T-16, VT-8, Jun 1942, Battle of Midway as flown by LtCdr JC Waldron
This sheet provides sufficient stencils and national markings for two, perhaps three models, depending on your choice of subjects. The instructions are in color and will also help identify some of the subtle color and detail variations for each of these subjects.
You can purchase these decals directly from Starfighter Decals on their website.
My sincere thanks to Starfighter Decals for this review sample!
