First Look
Starfighter Decals has released this decal update set to more accurately represent your Trumpeter 1/350 USS Nimitz CVN 68 model at specific periods of time between 1975-1983. This set provides the essential deck markings as well as the specific markings on the island at specific periods of time. The instructions also indicate which squadrons were embarked on each cruise during that timeframe. Starfighter Decals also produces many of those squadrons in 1/350 scale with more on the way.
As you can see in the instructions, this set provides placement locations around the deck for each of the decals as well as the markings for the island depicting placement and size differences during various cruises in the eight-year window covered by this set. Of course, this set covers the Nimitz's 1980-81 cruise that started with the filming of that favorite F-14 vs A6M movie 'Final Countdown' which wrapped up in the Mediterranean where the cast and crew were hastily evacuated off the ship as eight RH-53 Sea Stallions flew aboard and were whisked below deck. The Nimitz proceeded with haste to its launch point in the Persian Gulf to launch those helicopters for the unsuccessful Iranian Hostage Rescue.
If you're wishing to depict the Nimitz during a specific cruise between 1975 and 1983, this set will help you get the right markings to achieve that extra level of detail and accuracy. You can purchase these decals directly from Starfighter Decals on their website.
My sincere thanks to Starfighter Decals for this review sample!
