First Look
Superscale International is well-known for their aftermarket decals. At one time these decals were produced under the Microscale brand before the business was split up, but even then Superscale decals were still printed by Microscale. Of course this company goes back many decades and the company more recently became part of Squadron's line-up of hobby products. This set was printed by Cartograf, so the times sure have changed!
This set was produced for the recent Tamiya masterpiece, their 1/32 P-51D Mustang kit. This set provides the essential markings to replicate one of two aircraft. The examples presented here include:
- P-51D, 44-14822, 79 FS/20 FG, LC-A, 'Sad Sack' as flown by Major Merle J Gilbertson, 1944
- P-51D, unknown, 55 FS/20 FG, KI-S, as flown by Lt Moon Mullins, 1944
The set provides sufficient national markings and stencils for one aircraft. The instructions provide color references to FS 595 paints though two of the key colors are not matched up to any standard. Here are some nice alternative subjects to the markings supplied by Tamiya and for sharkmouth fans, this 370th FG example will look good on the contest table as well.
My sincere thanks to Squadron Mail Order for this review sample!
