First Look
LPS Hobby from Brazil had produced a very thorough decal sheet to replicate any of KLM's (former) flagship 747-200 fleet. This decal set provides markings for one of seven aircraft:
- PH-BUA, Mississippi
- PH-BUB, Danube
- PH-BUC, Amazon
- PH-BUD, Nile
- PH-BUE, Rio de La Plata
- PH-BUF, Rhine
- PH-BUG, Orinono
This sheet provides sufficient stencils and markings for one kit. The instructions are in color and will also help replicate the paint scheme and colors worn by these aircraft. Since Google is my friend, I looked to see what had become of these aircraft as one of them sounded familiar. Several were sold to America West for their long-haul flights, others were put into storage. PH-BUF was the KLM aircraft that at Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain, attempted to take off without clearance and struck a Pan Am 747 crossing the runway on 27 March 1977. 583 people died on both aircraft and still remains the deadliest accident in aviation history.
At present, I don't have pricing information on these sheets but you can contact the company directly at lpsi1973@yahoo.com.br to get more information
My sincere thanks to LPS Hobby for this review sample!
