First Look

Foxbot Decals is new (to me) decal company from Kiev, Ukraine, that specializes in replicating those interesting Ukrainian Air Force subjects currently in service. They also produce a nice array of Soviet WW2 subjects as well, though they will jump outside those boundaries to produce other interesting subjects. Here is one of those subjects that is interesting, this set provides colorful nose art for USAAF C-47s operating in the European and Pacific theaters. Let's take a look:

Foxbot 1/48 C-47 Pin-up Nose Art w/Airframe Stencils Part 1 Decal First Look Foxbot 1/48 C-47 Pin-up Nose Art w/Airframe Stencils Part 1 Decal First Look

The subjects in this set include:

  • C-47A-70-DL, 42-100738, 87 TCS/438 TCG/9 AF, Greenham Common, UK, 1944, 'Belle of Birmingham'
  • C-47A-30-DL, 42-23713, 66 TCS/433 TCG/5 AF, Papua, New Guinea, 1944, 'Ghost of Billie L'
  • C-47, unknown, 'Meat Waggin'
  • C-47, unknown, 54 TCW/5 AF, 1944, 'Biscuit Bomber'

This set is produced on two sheets of decals, one with the distinctive nose art and aircraft identifications, the other with a nice array of airframe stencils and a generic set of numbers to replicate tail numbers not covered (or provided) by the first sheet. The first sheet also provides a set of national markings, though the blue background is a little light for insignia blue. The instructions are nicely done with clear placement of the stencils on four-view drawings. Ignoring the national markings, there are some colorful subjects here that would really made the Monogram 1/48 C-47 worth another go.
