First Look
Thank you Flying Leathernecks! Finally, someone has released a nice set of decals for the operational V-22 Ospreys, these reflecting the tiltrotors in Marine Corps service. We've had the Italeri 1/48 V-22 kit for a while, but little attention has been given this subject until now.
Flying Leathernecks Decals has rendered this subject in one of their superset releases, with one huge sheet of decals that contain ten different aircraft and enough national markings and stencils for two complete models.
One other VERY important feature of this set is the CD-ROM that is included. As with some of the previous releases, Flying Leathernecks provides its instructions for decal placement and paint guides as images on the CD-ROM in Adobe PDF as well as JPEG formats. While this is nice, what is really great are the literally hundreds of detail photo walk around shots of several aircraft with beautiful details of the Marine Osprey inside and out.
The ten aircraft featured in this set are:
- V-22, 166687, VMM-162, YS/00, MCAS New River, 2006, CO's aircraft
- V-22, 166388, VMM-162, YS/14, MCAS New River, 2006
- V-22, 166732, VMM-261, EM/01, MCAS New River, 2008
- V-22, 165944, VMM-261, EM/13, MCAS New River, 2008
- V-22, 166390, VMM-261, EM/14, MCAS New River, 2008
- V-22, 165852, VMM-263, EG/00, Al Asad AB, 2007/2008, CO's aircraft
- V-22, 166497, VMM-263, EG/07, Al Asad AB, 2007/2008
- V-22, 166496, VMM-263, EG/10, Al Asad AB, 2007/2008
- V-22, 166485, VMMT-204, GX/00, MCAS New River, 2007
- V-22, 166493, VMX-22, MV/01, MCAS New River, 2008
We have the first useful and comprehensive release of markings for the Osprey kit including several examples in-theater. The extensive photo library is just what the doctor ordered to help you (and me) update the Italeri kit to current configuration as well as to accurately detail the interior and exterior. Sweet!
