First Look
FCM Decal is an interesting line of aftermarket decals from Brazil. The subjects covered in this line include many Brazilian civil and military aircraft subjects, WWI aircraft, and the occasional look at the aircraft of other nations as well.
In this set, we have an interesting set of F-14A Tomcats from VF-33 Starfighters as they appeared at different times while aboard USS America. Six aircraft are profiled:
- F-14A, 159428, AB/201, VF-33, USS America, 1982
- F-14A, 159425, AB/200, CAG, VF-33, USS America, 1992
- F-14A, 159427, AB/210, VF-33, USS America, 1983/4
- F-14A, 159429, AB/207, VF-33, USS America, 1984
- F-14A, 159015, AB/206, VF-33, USS America, 1984
- F-14A, 159445, AB/211, VF-33, USS America, 1991
If you look closer, you'll notice too many markings on these two decal sheets for just six aircraft. In fact, FCM has provided markings to replicate any aircraft from the ENTIRE SQUADRON as it appeared in 1982 (less aircraft 213) and any aircraft from the entire squadron as it appeared in 1990 less aircraft 202. There are enough stencils and markings to render at least two aircraft, possibly four, depending on the combination of schemes selected.
The printing of the FCM Decal line is sharp and clear, with the markings printed on a heavier carrier film that responds well to film softeners like Solvaset. The decal set includes complete stenciling, windows, doors and other essential details.
