First Look

Furball Aero-Design has released this impressive set of decals for a nice cross-section of 1/48 F/A-18 Hornets and Super Hornets. Sized for the Hasegawa kits, this set provides one F/A-18A adversary, three F/A-18C CAGs, two F/A-18E CAGs, and two F/A-18F CAG/squadron commander aircraft.

This set includes eight subjects:

  • F/A-18C, 165217, VFA-34, NE/400, USS Ronal Reagan, 2014, CAG aircraft
  • F/A-18C, 165202, VFA-83, AG/300, USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, 2014, CAG aircraft
  • F/A-18C, 165208, VFA-131, AG/400, USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, 2014, CAG aircraft
  • F/A-18E, 166650, VFA-105, AC/400, USS Harry S. Truman, 2014, CAG aircraft
  • F/A-18E, 166608, VFA-143, AG/100, USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, 2014, CAG aircraft
  • F/A-18F, 166661, VFA-32, AC/100, USS Harry S. Truman, 2014, CAG aircraft
  • F/A-18F, 166621, VFA-103, AG/201, USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, 2014, Skipper's aircraft

The sheet is printed by Cartograf and the printing is very well done. What's more, none of these decals require the modeler to stack multiple layers of markings atop one another to recreate artwork. This trend by some other decal companies of producing multiple-layer decals is unfortunate as it puts the burden on you to do the work of what should have been done by the decal maker.

This is a terrific selection of colorful contemporary Hornets and you'll simply want to do all of them!

My sincere thanks to Furball Aero-Design for this review sample!
