First Look

DXM Decal is back with another interesting release. This set provides a nice cross-section of subjects ranging from the F-14D's early days aboard USS Carl Vinson through their final cruise with the F-14D aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt in 2006. This cross-section provides a variety of color and marking variations as well as camouflage variations through this time period.

This set consists of two sheets which provide the standard Tomcat markings and walkways as well as the distinctive markings for each of the subjects listed below. Those subjects include:

  • F-14D, 164342, VF-31, AJ/100, USS Theodore Roosevelt, 2006, CAG aircraft
  • F-14D, 164600, VF-31, NK/101, USS Abraham Lincoln, 2002, Skipper's aircraft
  • F-14D, 164601, VF-31, NK/100, USS Abraham Lincoln, 2003, CAG aircraft
  • F-14D, 163893, VF-31, NK/200, USS Carl Vinson, 1995, CAG aircraft
  • F-14D, 159619, VF-31, AJ/105, USS Theodore Roosevelt/NAS Oceana, 2006

  • F-14D, 164350, VF-31, Tomcat Sunset, 2006

This set provides a variety of schemes for your favorite Tomcat kit., and you can replicate several of these colorful schemes if you can find additional airframe stencil sets. The final scheme replicates the original high-visibility schemes worn by the early F-14As when they entered service and worn by this F-14D at the Tomcat Sunset ceremony that marked the Tomcat's official last flight.
