First Look

Here is the latest release from Caracal Models just in time for the new Trumpeter 1/48 A3D-2 Skywarrior kit. This set provides three early Skywarrior bomber examples wearing distinctive unit markings.

USN A3D-2 Skywarrior Part 1 USN A3D-2 Skywarrior Part 1

The subjects covered in this set include:

  • A3D-2, 144626, VAH-1, AG/610, USS Independence, 1962
  • A3D-2, 138951, VAH-5, AK/502, USS Forrestal, 1959
  • A3D-2, 142255, VAH-6, ZC/2, USS Ranger, 1958

The markings are nicely printed (by Cartograf) and provide national markings, distinctive tail art markings as well as a nice set of airframe stencils. The decals are all single-layer - none of them require you to stack one decal atop another to recreate complex art as with some other decal manufacturers.

My sincere thanks to Caracal Models for this review sample!
