First Look
Here is the latest release from Caracal Models, this time rendering some nice markings of the A-10C Thunderbolt II in 1/48 scale. Whether you're doing an A-10A kit upgraded to the A-10C configuration or getting prepared for Italeri's new 1/48 A-10C kit, here are some nice subjects to choose from. In this set we have two examples from my local Air National Guard unit in Fort Wayne, IN (Go Blacksnakes!!) and two from my parents' local unit in Boise ID. What's interesting about this set is that we have the first new nose art on the Hawg in a while. We've had the famous sharkmouth as well as various styled boars' heads on the nose of the A-10 over the years. With the Blacksnakes, we have the first snakehead art on the Hawg.
The aircraft covered include:
- A-10C, 82-0661, 122 FW/IN ANG, 2012
- A-10C, 78-0152, 122 FW/IN ANG, 2012
- A-10C, 78-0707, 124 FW/ID ANG, 2011
- A-10C, 79-0084, 124 FW/ID ANG, 2011
The markings are nicely printed (by Cartograf) and provide national markings, distinctive markings, as well as a nice set of airframe stencils. The decals are all single-layer - none of them require you to stack one decal atop another to recreate complex art as with some other decal manufacturers.

My sincere thanks to Caracal Models for this review sample!
