First Look

Begemot Decals has released a new decal superset for the 1/72 MiG-31BM, MiG-31BSM, and MiG-31K. This set has a variety of markings options for over 28 examples from the Soviet and Russian air arms. Let's take a look:

Begemot previously released a decal set for the MiG-31BM/BSM 'improved' Foxhounds in 1/48 scale four years ago, and while most of the subjects covered in that release are here in 1/72 scale, they've added 13 more profiles to cover aircraft that had since entered squadron service as well as coverage for the modified MiG-31K hypersonic Kinzhal missile carrier. There are a variety of options for the MiG-31BM (updated configuration) and MiG-31BSM (updated configuration plus air refueling capability). In addition, several of the profiles depict a single aircraft, but the instructions also provide a list of other bort numbers/tail numbers associated with that same unit.

This set comes with two sheets of decals, one covering the distinctive subjects listed in the profiles, the other providing an extensive set of airframe stencils and weapons stencils. Markings are also provided for the Russian Air Force (VVS) and current Russian Aerospace Force (VKS) as well as the standard red star national markings as well as the current red star with blue outline.

My sincere thanks to Begemot Decals for this review sample!
