First Look
Begemot Decals is an interesting decal company from Rostov-on-Don, Russia that offers a nice array of markings for Russian-built aircraft. To date, they've released some very colorful markings for the Su-27 family, and one of the releases that was on the horizon was a maintenance stencil set to support these various schemes. Well the good news is that the maintenance stencil set is out and just look at that set!
I suppressed a wave of panic when I opened the 1/48 scale set and saw that there are THREE SHEETS of stencils for the 1/48 Su-27 kit(s). Upon reading through the instructions, there are variations provided in this set. First are a number of stencils that are common to the Flanker family, then there are subsets of these markings that apply to the Su-27, Su-27UB, and Su-33. Quite a few of these decals are intended for the numerous weapons pylons on the airframe and for the stencils on the various weapons carried by the Su-27 family. In other words, the set is very complete! This set in 1/72 scale is just as thorough and even in this scale, takes up to full-sized sheets with no wasted space.
This set is intended to compliment the other sheets in the Flanker Family series to take your Hasegawa Flanker to the next level of visual detail. I can only hope that Begemot will also release a subset of these decals for the Trumpeter 1/32 Su-27 and the upcoming 1/32 Su-30MMK kits.
