First Look
BarracudaCals has returned with their next installment in their 1/48 scale aircraft series with this nice selection of Spitfire Mk.IX series aircraft. This set provides an interesting cross-section of subjects:
- Spitfire HF.VII, MD111, 131 Sqn, NX-O, 1944
- Spitfire HF.VII, MB820, 124 Sqn, ON-E, 1943, as flown by F/O Barrit
- Spitfire FR.IX, MK716, 16 Sqn, X, 1944
- Spitfire Mk.IXc, MH883, 412 Sqn (RCAF), VZ-B, 1944, as flown by F/L George 'Buzz' Beurling
The sheets are printed by Cartograf and are very sharp as well as in-register. The sheet comes with a nice set of maintenance stencils and good instructions on where everything goes. The instructions indicate that these markings are intended for the ICM 1/48 Spitfire Mk.IX or the Hasegawa Mk.IX. The only glitch in this set is the requirement for you to place the red dot onto the multi-colored roundels as a separate decal rather than having the decals pre-registered for you as a single decal.
My sincere thanks to BarracudaCals Decals for this preview!
